Unconventional Diwali Celebration with Havan

Unlike every year Diwali celebration 2020 was a close knit affair at Mrityunjay Yoga. With the dark cloud of Corona looming over us we cut down on the extravaganza and rather celebrated it in the most unconventional but spiritual way.

A Havan was organised at Subhash Stadium Branch and was attended by faculty members and selected few students. Havan has its own spiritual and even scientific values and benefits.

Havan is an ancient vedic tradition where sacred fire is invoked with the intentions of cleansing one’s (material and spiritual) self, as well as the environment.

In Hindu culture fire is considered as a symbol of God, and during havan practitioners offer items such as grains, ghee and herbs to the sacred fire as symbolic offerings to God. Several positive effects are inherent to this ritual ranging from revitalizing/purifying the environment to curing diseases.

After the havan, it was time to engage in some fun and frolic, and celebrate the essence of Diwali. Rangoli was made with everybody’s collective effort. Later on everybody danced their heart out. And the day ended with sharing sweets and blessings.
